TABLEAU KEY POINTS

 Tableau Key points

Tableau is a visualization analytics platform which is used to get some insights about

data.

Live connection allows us the real-time data and all modifications updated in real

time.

Extract connection are just stored dataset and it needs to be refreshed time to time.

Types of filters in tableau:

1) Extract filters

Used to extract the data from the Various sources.

2) Data Source filter

Used to restrict sensitive data from viewers.

3) Context filters

It applies the relevant context to entire dataset.

4) Dimension filter

Used to apply filters on categorical data columns.

5) Measure filters

Used to apply filter on numerical values or columns.

Dimensions in tableau contain qualitative values used to categorise or segment the

data.

Measures contains the numerical, quantitative values that we can measure.

Calculated field is used to create new columns using formula that performs some

actions in data source.

- Select analysis

- Create calculated fields.

Parameters in tableau are used to estimate or calculate the data values dynamically.

Difference between filter and parameter:

Filters are created on worksheet level and parameters are reused across the entire

workbook.

Sets in tableau stores custom fields based on existing dimensions and measures.

Worksheet is the area where we can perform various types of operations like

visualisation, pivoting and so on.

Dashboard is the region where we put all data insights that we did in worksheets.

Story is the region where we analyse all data insights that we did in dashboard along

with story telling.

Data blending aggregates the data then combines it. It combines data from diff

sources.

Joins combines data and aggregates it. It combine data only from same source.

Marks portion consists of color, sub category, labels etc.
